I don't agree with this personally. The comics should only be on the Marvel wiki, not the X-Men wiki, and the X-Men movies should be on it's own, since it's it's own continuity.
Hi, thanks for posting! That's a really interesting point of debate.
As it stands, this wiki currently links to Marvel Wiki for its comic book content. That effectively takes your readers away from your content, which removes the option for them to read the comic book content and easily navigate back to the movie content on this wiki.
If both sets of content are kept on one wiki, you improve the reading experience, allowing the reader to easily flick back and forth between what content they want on one website, without having to take them somewhere else unfamiliar.
This also brings benefits search engine wise and from a fan's perspective. Regarding search engine optimisation, having the rich comic book content mixed with the rich movie content which both linked to each other will improve search engine rankings for this wiki, enabling you to grow the community.
With that, you also make a unified X-Men wiki that go to place for all X-Men fans. They want to talk all-things X-Men? Let's go to the X-Men Wiki! They can find all the information they want on their franchise in one place and the new wiki would act as a hub for them to engage and discuss the franchise be all love in a convenient place.
Yee 😀
But let's say the X-Men are rebooted into the MCU one day, are those versions going on the X-Men wiki as well as the MCU wiki and the Marvel wiki? If I want info on a marvel universe earth number/character, I look on the Marvel wiki. I never really had a reason to use a X-Men/Spider-Man etc. wiki.
The movies have the advantage of discussion and more detailed articles. They are also uniquely fitted to their franchise (Timeline pages). If anything, we should merge all the Marvel wikis.
I agree probot
@ProBot1227, think of it like this: not all X-Men fans are necessarily fans of everything Marvel-related. An X-Men Wiki that covers everything will give them a place to gather where they don't have to navigate through other Marvel content. Seeing as how expansive the X-Men franchise is, it can easily sustain its own wiki.
The Fox movies will eventually fade from public consciousness, and when that happens, the X-Men Movies Wiki will see a sharp decline in viewership and contributors. At least on a larger X-Men Wiki will it have support from a larger userbase. When the MCU X-Men movies come around, we'll cover them as well.
I agree mutant
ProBot, that's a very good point and I think it's more when than if it merges from the sounds of the rumors.
As that's not going to happen certainly for another 5 years or so probably, measures can be taken to cater for the current X-Men content the two wikis have. As Game of Thrones wiki found, not accounting for the book content on the wiki really harmed their viewing figures and user numbers. Once they started documenting the books, that really helped their community grow.
Per MutantLivesMatter, I think there really is a place in the present for a comprehensive X-Men database for X-Men fans to discuss the franchise. And for the future, when hype dies down for the Fox movies, there will be plenty of comic book content to cover for sure.
I'll acknowledge though that once the MCU merge happens, things would need looking at again to assess the best route forward. For now though, making a comprehensive X-Men Wiki would be the best way forward initially. If a merge with Marvel Wiki is appropriate in future, you would have all the X-Men articles in one place to conduct that merge smoothly down the line.
Not all MCU fans like the tv shows (shame on them) but they are still in the MCU Wiki and very much canon (I have a word document of all proof). Game of Thrones may have two different continuites, but it's a much smaller franchise and it's easier to fit them together, unlike Marvel.
X-Men characters are related to other characters, meaning that lets say you have a page for a Spider-Man crossover, you can't have an article about Spider-Man reguardless of how essential he may be to a pacific storyline.
What If the X-Men played a small part in a massive Marvel event? Will you have a page for that?
Point is, the X-Men are in the Marvel universe. That's not a vague reference here and there, it's what they are built around. I just don't see myself using an X-Men wiki.
In my opinion, completing this wiki is the absolute best thing we can do. Viewship may decline, sure, but if I were looking for a wiki and saw "X-Men wiki" I'd probably ignore it for reasons above.
The X-Men movies (especially the older films) have many liberties taken from the source material compared to other adaptations, so i think it'd be best for the X-Men films to maintain their separate wiki from the comics and other adaptations, like the distinction between the MCU wiki and the general Marvel wiki.
