• Sebastian Shaw opens the Hellfire Club, a gambling and drinking establishment that he uses as a front for his secret mutant supremacy operations. He recruits Azazel and Janos Quested as henchmen and bodyguards.

1952

October

7th

• Vladimir Putin is born.

1953

• Ichirō Yashida establishes the Yashida Corporation.
• Albert Einstein writes a letter involving the sentence "I do not believe in immortality of the individual, and I consider ethics to be an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind it." It would later be quoted by Kitty Pryde.

1955

• Hank McCoy graduates from Harvard University.

November

1st

• The Vietnam War begins.

1956

• Erik Lehnsherr has a sexual relationship with Ms. Maximoff, resulting in the birth of his son Peter Maximoff. However, Erik leaves before he is born, not knowing of his existence.
• Yahtzee is published.
• Old Yeller is published, featuring a character being mercy killed.

1957

• Emma Frost begins working for mob boss Vinny Lavecchia in Las Vegas, using her telepathic powers to help him win money.

1958

• The Once and Future King by T.H. White is published.

July

29th

• The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, is formed.

1959

• Emma Frost meets Sebastian Shaw and he convinces her to join the Hellfire Club.
• William Stryker begins his work on mutants.^{[citation needed]}
