Alcatraz is an island located near San Francisco where the final battle of X-Men: The Last Stand took place. It was also used as a base for the the Mutant Cure where Leech was kept.

In the past, Alcatraz was a prison until it was shut down and became a tourist attraction.
X-Men: The Last Stand[]
At some point in the future, Warren Worthington II (head of Worthington Labs) turns the former prison into a research facility to produce a cure to mutation. This facility was later attacked by the Brotherhood of Mutants and partly destroyed by Phoenix.
