Ever since the existence of mutants was revealed to the world in 1973, Ashir En Sabah Nur began searching ancient sites to find clues centered around the return of Apocalypse. Their activities drew the attention of the CIA, and Agent Moira MacTaggert was assigned to keep track of the cult. Ashir En Sabah Nur located the ruins of an ancient pyramid in Cairo, where they would gather to worship Apocalypse. Following them down into the chamber, Moira inadvertently allowed sunlight to reach a remnant of the pyramid, causing Apocalypse to awaken from his millennia-long slumber. As he teleported away from the ruins, Apocalypse's power unleashed seismic activity that caused the members of Ashir En Sabah Nur to be crushed by falling rocks in the chamber.
