"Oh I knew better than to trust you."
―Colonel Hendry to Sebastian Shaw[src]

Biography[]

X-Men: First Class[]

In 1962, Colonel Hendry was threatened with his life by Sebastian Shaw the Hellfire Club to place Jupiter missiles in Turkey as part of their plans to orchestrate the Cuban Missile Crisis which would spark World War III. When he met with Shaw in Las Vegas, he wanted to send the missiles in Cuba and Colonel Hendry was sent to debate about it. Afterwards, Azazel teleported him over 2,400 miles away back to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., not knowing that CIA agent Moira MacTaggert was watching. When she called them about the what occurred, they refused to believe her because he was already there.

After the Jupiter missiles were placed in Turkey, Colonel Hendry visited Shaw's yacht in Miami to collect his pay but knew he wouldn't leave alive. So, he threatened to blow up the Hellfire Club and himself with a grenade to be free but Shaw saw through his bluff and absorbed the grenade's explosion when he pulled the pin himself. Shaw then touched Hendry with one finger, and the latter was killed in the explosion.
