The Demon Bear was a mysterious animal-like entity who is the physical manifestation of Dani Moonstar's greatest fear.[1]
Biography[]
The New Mutants[]
The Demon Bear was a terrifying entity connected closely to Dani Moonstar. Its origin is unknown, but it supposedly has to do with her inner spirit being corrupted and wants to consume her to feel whole again. It destroys her reservation and kills her father William before mysteriously disappearing. It manages to find her in an abandoned hospital where it mauls and drops her captor Dr. Cecilia Reyes then presumably tears apart her corpse more as it heads down. The Demon Bear proceeds to battle Dani's new friends Illyana Rasputin, Sam Guthrie, Roberto da Costa and Rahne Sinclair. Dani eventually overcomes the Demon Bear by talking down to it and accepting her newfound gifts. The Demon Bear becomes docile and finally rests; dissipating just as the sun is rising.

Powers[]
- Superhuman Strength - The bear proved to be incredibly strong, managing to send people flying with a single blow and defeat Sunspot, who possesses great strength on his own.[1]
- Nigh-Invulnerability - The Demon Bear's skin is extremely tough, making it nigh-invulnerable to attack. He withstood the blows of the extremely strong Sunspot, the slashes of Magik's sword and Rahne's claws, and a forceful blow from Cannonball in full charged.
- Healing Factor - Though capable of being injured, it was able to heal itself in time and survive its wounds.[1]
- Teleportation - It was capable of casting a spell allowing him to teleport between sites.[1]
- Negative emotion empowerment - The Demon Bear appears to be affected by how others perceive it, specifically by Dani. It preys on her fear of it and her wanting to run away. The more people fight against it, the stronger it becomes.

Trivia[]
- In the comics, the Demon Bear was actually a corrupted entity that was composed of Dani's parents William and Peg Lonestar. A strike from Magik's Soulsword was enough to dissipate the entity and freeing them. It continued to make reappearances in other forms such as Apache spirits, where it fought Warpath and Ghost Rider, and took over Bishop, where it was defeated by Psylocke. Afterwards, it became a docile being.
