"Okay, how about I make you a promise? When you're old enough to drive, you can listen to whatever music you want."
―Elaine to Jean[src]

Elaine Grey was the wife of John Grey and the mother of Jean Grey.

Biography[]

Original Timeline[]

Meeting Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr[]

After their daughter Jean developed the mutant abilities of telekinesis and telepathy, Elaine and her husband John invited Professor Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr to their home to discuss what they should do with Jean. Elaine admired a brochure about Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but John was more concerned about Jean's so-called "illness". These poor choice of words stirred anger in Erik, but Charles quickly diffused the situation by asking Elaine and John if Jean could speak with him and Erik in private. The couple agreed, and Elaine called Jean down to meet with the two men.[1]

Revised Timeline[]

Death[]

In 1975, Elaine was driving on the road with John and eight-year-old Jean. When Jean's mutant powers started flaring up, she inadvertently caused Elaine to fall asleep at the wheel, resulting in the car swerving into an oncoming vehicle. Elaine died from injuries sustained in the accident.[2]
