The Sentinel Mk X was a future version of the original Sentinels that had the ability to adapt to any mutant power. Although they nearly succeeded in wiping out all mutant-kind, they were ultimately erased from existence due to the efforts of the surviving X-Men and the Free Mutants.
History[]
X-Men: Days of Future Past[]
In 1973, Dr. Bolivar Trask made several attempts to convince world leaders to fund his Sentinel program, without success. During one such attempt at the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, he was attacked and killed by Mystique, who had infiltrated the conference disguised as a Vietnamese general.
Although Mystique killed Trask as revenge for the mutants he murdered in his research to create the Sentinels, doing so did not have the outcome she intended. Due to the fact that she was a mutant, her decision to kill Trask only made him a martyr for the Anti-Mutant movement and persuaded world leaders for the need of his Sentinel program at the time. Mystique was also captured by Major William Stryker, Trask's right-hand man, before she could make her escape and by experimenting on her and another mutant in their custody named Rogue, Trask's scientists were eventually able to create the Sentinel MK X, Sentinels with the ability to adapt to any mutant power.
Fifty years later, the world had become a dystopia dominated by the Sentinels, who had turned the planet into a war-torn wasteland and driven mutant-kind to the verge of extinction. In a final bid to save their race, the surviving X-Men gathered in a remote monastery in China for one last stand against the Sentinels, while Shadowcat used her powers to project Wolverine's consciousness back in time to 1973 to stop Mystique from assassinating Trask and prevent the Sentinels from ever being created. Although almost all of the X-Men were killed in the ensuing Sentinel attack, they were still able to buy enough time for Wolverine to accomplish the mission, successfully erasing the dark future of 2023 from history and preventing the Sentinel MK X from ever being conceived.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
Unlike the prototype Sentinels that Trask built in 1973, the Sentinel Mark X had synthetic skin and was not made from metal.
- Superhuman Strength: The Sentinel Mark X possessed immense superhuman strength, as shown by how one was able to overpower Colossus with minimal effort.
- Superhuman Durability: The Sentinel Mark X was extremely tough and hard to damage.
- Superhuman Agility: The Sentinels Mark X were extremely agile and quick, as shown by how one was capable of quickly leaping over a wall and killing Storm before she was even aware of its presence.
- Telepathic Immunity: Due to their robotic nature, the Mark X Sentinels were incapable of being manipulated through telepathic means.
- Limited Self-Repair: The Sentinels of 2023 were capable of self-repairing minor damage. During an erased attack in Moscow, one Sentinel took a hit to the head from Bishop, only for it to almost instantly fix the damage caused by this attack. However, they were not capable of fixing more severe damage, such as the loss of limbs.
- Energy Blasts: The Sentinel Mark X was able to fire powerful energy blasts from their heads that could melt through almost anything.
- Shapeshifting: Due to being based off Mystique's DNA, the Sentinel Mark X was able to alter its body to fit a variety of both offensive and defensive purposes, as shown by how one was able to transform into ice against its battle with Sunspot and another was able to kill him by morphing its hands into claws.
- Power Mimicry: Due to being based off Rogue's DNA, the Sentinel Mark X was able to copy the powers of other mutants and even share its powers with other Sentinels nearby.
- Flight: The Sentinel Mark X could fly at high speeds.
Weaknesses[]
Despite the fact that the Sentinel MK X was able to adapt to any mutant power, it was still vulnerable to damage because neither Mystique or Rogue, the two mutants its powers were based off of, possessed regenerative capabilities. The Sentinel MK X was also possible to counter with adamantium, as seen when the X-Men were able to obliterate hundreds of Sentinels by using the X-Jet (which was built out of adamantium) as a bomb, and was not built to withstand its own attacks, as displayed when Blink was able to severely damage several Sentinels by re-directing their energy attacks at each other with her portals.
