"Mr. Wilson...What if I told you, that we can make you better?. Giving you abilities that most men only dream of? Listen, I'm a representative of a very secret organization and I can promise you that you would not regret after this. If you decide, call me."
―The Recruiter to Wade Wilson[src]

The Recruiter, nicknamed Agent Smith by Deadpool, was a high-ranking member of Weapon X whose job was recruit those who suffered from terminal illnesses into the program on the promise it could cure them of their ailments.

Biography[]

Deadpool[]

At some point in time, the Recruiter was hired by Ajax to bring in terminally ill people to experiment on for Weapon X, giving them a false promise that the program had a "miracle cure" for their ailments. Among the people he enlisted was Wade Wilson, who ultimately survived Ajax's experiments with his sanity and personality intact but became severely disfigured as a result of his mutation.

Determined to track Ajax down for the cure to his condition, Wade took up a new identity as the costumed vigilante known as Deadpool and began hunting down all of Ajax's associates, including the Recruiter, for his whereabouts. When Deadpool finally tracked down the Recruiter to a hospital, the latter attempted to run, only for Deadpool to smash him up against the side of a car and reveal his identity. Realizing that he was good as dead, the Recruiter quickly relented and gave up Ajax's location to Deadpool, who proceeded to brutally murder him off-screen.

Personality[]

Despite being enigmatic, the Recruiter was an extremely manipulative, cold-hearted, dishonest, and ruthless man who had no qualms tricking people into being test subjects for the Workshop by lying to them that the program would be able to cure them of their diseases and make them superheroes as a result. He also showed no sympathy or remorse towards those he led to Ajax to be experimented on, and took his role very seriously as a recruiter. However, despite his manipulative demeanor, the Recruiter did have a cowardly side, as shown by how he was willing to give up his boss's location almost immediately after Deadpool cornered him.
