X-Men Movies Wiki

Deadpool & Wolverine uses the designation Earth-10005 for the revised timeline, which is the same designation used for the original timeline. As such, the wiki is currently operating on the basis that Wolverine overwrote the same timeline without creating a branch. Despite the overwrite, certain pages have been marked with "/Revised Timeline" to distinguish events that occurred pre-timeline rewrite with those that occurred post-rewrite.

"Where am I?"
―Wolverine to Charles Xavier[src]

Logan (born James "Jimmy" Howlett), also referred to as Wolverine, was a mutant born with retractable forearm claws, enhanced physical attributes and a powerful healing factor.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

James "Jimmy" Howlett was born in 1832 in what would later be known as the Northwest Territories of Canada.[1]

Meeting Charles and Erik[]

"You know... I think I do remember you now. Yeah. Tall, angry fellow with the contentious hair. We came to you a long time ago, seeking your help. And I'm gonna say to you what you said to us then. Fuck off."

In 1962, Howlett was in a bar where he was approached by Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. However, he told them to fuck off.[2]

Body Hijacked[]

"I mean, yes, I slept with her many times."
"Jimmy!"
"That wasn't me. That was the old me. I just got here twenty seconds ago."
James Howlett and Gwen[src]

In January 1973, Howlett was hired as a bodyguard to a young woman but entered a sexual relationship with her against the rules. The next morning, the mind of his 2023 self from the future was sent back in time and hijacked the body. Some time later, the connection was unbroken, and Howlett suddenly found himself in a room with a strange man. Howlett asked the man where they were and who he was, to which the man responded by stating that Howlett was undergoing a bad acid trip. Moments later, the 2023 Howlett regained control of the body.

The next day, the 2023 Howlett's takeover of the body came to an end, and this Howlett was left drowning at the bottom of a river. He was fished out by the authorities serving under William Stryker, who was actually Mystique in disguise.[2]

Capture and Escape[]

Weapon X (Apocalypse - 1983)

Logan as "Weapon X"

"What'd you do to him?"
"I found a piece of his past and gave it back to him. Just the few memories I could reach."
"I hope that's the last we've seen of that guy."
Cyclops and Jean Grey[src]

By 1983, Howlett, known as Wolverine now, was captured and subjected to the Weapon X program by the real William Stryker at Alkali Lake, gaining an adamantium skeleton in the process. He was outfitted with a harness, headgear, and some cords pierced into his torso, designed to brainwash him into a living weapon for Stryker to command. The effect of the brainwashing turned Wolverine feral and primal, causing him to become instinctively aggressive and berserk. When Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler infiltrate the facility to rescue their captured friends from Stryker, Grey discovered Wolverine's containment unit and telepathically learned of his condition. She telekinetically unlocked the unit in an attempt to take out some incoming guards. resulting in the seemingly mindless Wolverine going on a violent rampage that leaves multiple personnel slaughtered.

Upon reaching the exit, Cyclops, Grey and Nightcrawler confronted Wolverine. However, as Wolverine and Cyclops were about to engage, Grey stopped them and telepathically told Wolverine she can help him. Grey took off the helmet and put her hands on Wolverine's head and partially restored his memories, which made him remember he was called "Logan". With no words, Wolverine removed his additional gear and fled into the wilderness.[3]

Joining the X-Men[]

"Logan, don't you have a class to teach?"
"A class to teach?"
"History."
Charles Xavier and James Howlett[src]

Logan eventually joined the X-Men and by 2023 lived at the X-Mansion, where he worked as a history teacher. One day, his body was permanently taken over by the mind of his other 2023 prime self, the one who had hijacked his body in 1973. This effectively deleted this Wolverine from existence, as his mind and consciousness was eliminated as a result of the other Wolverine's transference.[2]

Physical Death[]

This Logan's body was used by his prime self for the remainder of his life, although the majority of that time was in pain, as Wolverine's body was riddled with adamantium poisoning. In 2029, only six years after taking over the body permanently, the prime Logan was mortally wounded by X-24, a Wolverine clone. He eventually succumbed to his wounds, bringing a physical death to this Wolverine's body. The body was then buried in a forest in North Dakota.[4] Its bones were used by Deadpool as weapons against the TVA[5]

  • Retractable Claws: Logan possesses a pair of three, 12-inch retractable claws in each forearm that emerge between each of his fingers' knuckles. While they were originally made of dense bone like the rest of his skeletal structure, able to tear through most matter unharmed, they were surgically bonded with a near-indestructible metal adamantium, which also caused a noticeable side-effect of reshaping his rough claws into sleek blades. These metal claws allow him to cut through absolutely any substance with little resistance.

Trivia[]

  • Wolverine was originally intended to have a larger part in X-Men: Apocalypse, with writer Simon Kinberg implying Charles and Hank eventually located him following the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Elaborating, he stated: "There was always a notion that we wanted Wolverine to be in the movie. We wanted to find a way to feature him in the film, partly because Bryan (Singer) and I love Hugh Jackman so much. We love the character, obviously, and he’s such a huge part of the franchise. There were a lot of iterations of how Wolverine would enter and exit the movie. There was a version when he was going to come in at the midpoint of the film and be like the drill sergeant for the kids and take over as their leader, and we felt like that stepped on (Jennifer Lawrence’s) role in the movie and becoming their leader".[6]
